The mega-hit action film Wolf Warrior 2 has been selected to represent China in the bid for the Best Foreign Language Film at next year's Oscars.
The film has raked in more than 5.6 billion yuan at the box office as is the highest-grossing film of all-time in Chinese cinema history.
It took only 12 days for the film to beat the previous record set by Stephen Chow's "The Mermaid," which earned 3.39 billion yuan last year.
Directed by and starring martial arts expert Wu Jing, Wolf Warrior 2 tells the story of Leng Feng, a former Chinese Special Forces officer, reprising his role as a rescuer and protector of civilians after getting involved in a war in an African country.
The huge demand for tickets has also prompted distributors to push back the film's off-screen date twice.
Wolf Warrior 2 is one of 92 films up for consideration in the Oscars's foreign language film category. Nominations for the 90th Academy Awards will be announced on January 23, 2018.
