PTE阅读想要拿高分，最常让人惆怅的就是长难句了。阅读中经常会出现句子很长句式成分很复杂的长难句，同学如果无法快速看懂这些句子，自然也就很难顺利解题了。其实攻克阅读长难句的关键是弄清句子成分，找出句子主干，从而将其简化。
The assembly was sovereign in all matters but in practice delegated its power to subordinate bodies such as the council, which prepared the agenda for the meetings of the assembly, and the courts, which took care of most judicial matters.
长难句类型：
省略+并列+从句
解释：
1 句子开头结构很好把握，读到but后加大了难度。注意，but后省略了主语the assembly, 也就是the assembly delegated…
2 delegated这个单词不常见。意思是to commit (power, functions, etc.) to another as agent or deputy.
3 针对subordinate bodies，句子中给出例子council and the courts. Council and courts 的并列关系容易忽略。
4 对council 和 courts职责的描述，句子中都给出了which 引导的定语从句。
The arrangement of the biological mass (“biomass”) of the vegetation into layered forms is termed its “structure” ( as opposed to its “composition”, which refers to the species of organisms forming the community).
长难句类型：
复杂修饰
解释：
1句子的主语部分比较长，看似头重脑轻。主语核心词为the arrangement.
2 在句尾括号部分，将structure与composition这两个概念区分，composition后有which引导的定语从句，解释composition。
An area of grassland vegetation with very simple structure, for example, has a very different microclimate at the ground level from that experienced in the upper canopy.
长难句类型：
省略+后置定语
解释：
1 整体句子读起来比较顺，主语area后有两个介词短语修饰。
2 词组搭配different…from…将ground level 和upper canopy进行类比。所以from后的that指代的是microclimate。
